Gesa zur Nieden is professor of musicology at the University of Greifswald/Germany since 2014. After her French-German PhD at University of Bochum and École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris/France on the Parisian Théâtre du Châtelet (1862-1914), she was a research fellow at the Department of Music History at the German Historical Institute of Rome/Italy. From 2011-2019 she was a junior professor at the University of Mainz, from 2016-2017 she worked as a guest professor Inter Artes at the University of Cologne and from 2018-2021 she was a deputy professor at Hannover University of Music, Drama and Media. Since 2010 she has been PI of several international research projects on early modern musicians’ mobilities and music transfers (ANR-DFG Musici, EU-HERA MusMig, DFG-NCN Pasticcio) and since 2021 she directs a subproject on opera as cultural heritage in the BMBF-research cluster Fragmented Transformations at Greifswald. Further research interests focus on music and history in plural societies, on the reception of Richard Wagner after 1945 and on early modern music printing.
