Production of popular music in municipal theaters 1930-50

Continuities, Priorities, Funding

Carolin Stahrenberg

Using the example of the municipal theaters in Salzburg, Baden near Vienna and Augsburg, any continuities that may arise and any shifting priorities will be identified based on the analysis of actor networks involved in the production system and the popular repertoire performed.

Particular attention is paid to the financing of the theaters during this period, in which the model of an artistic director (intendant) at the top of the system, depending on state subsidies, became widespread at municipal theaters in the German-speaking lands.
